Frequently Asked Questions

How do I schedule an appointment?

If you know you’d like to move forward with a phone consultation, you can schedule that directly through my online scheduler: https://juniper-counseling.clientsecure.me/

Otherwise, the quickest way to reach me is via email or through my Contact page questionnaire. You can also give me a call at (970) 439-0381 - I’m not always able to answer calls but will do my best to return voicemails as soon as possible. With any of these options, you can expect to hear from me within 2 business days.

Are you taking new clients?

At this time I am accepting new clients!

How much do you charge?

My standard fee is $120 per 50-minute session.

I do have a limited number of session openings for those who cannot comfortably afford the standard fee. I understand the barriers that exist when seeking mental health services and for that reason I reserve some openings for lower cost clients. In addition, I am an Open Path Collective therapist. Open Path is a collective of therapists offering affordable services between $30 and $60 per session in an effort to make services more accessible.

Lower cost fees are assessed depending on what is most realistic for you, and depending on what I am able to offer from a business ownership perspective. If payment is the sole reason for not reaching out for counseling, I encourage you to reach out anyway and we can discuss payment options further. More often than not, I’m able to come up with an acceptable agreement for most. If not, I can certainly help to direct you in the right direction.

Do you take insurance?

At this time I am not in network with any insurance companies.

Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes, I am happy to offer virtual sessions to those residing in Colorado.

What should I expect from the first session?

Our first session will be an opportunity for us to go over all of the paperwork that you will have filled out prior to session. It is also a chance for us to get to know each other, for you to ask any questions you may have, and for me to get a sense of your goals and to begin to understand what you’re hoping to get from our time together.

How long does counseling last?

This is fully dependent on you and what you’re looking to gain from counseling. Some find a few sessions sufficient, and others prefer to engage in long-term counseling (20 sessions or more). Although there’s not one answer to this question, it’s something that we can talk about throughout your time in counseling.

What should I expect from counseling overall?

I come from a humanistic perspective in my counseling practice. Humanistic counseling is a theory which is rooted in the belief that the client is the expert of their own experience, and that the relationship between client and counselor is what is the catalyst for a meaningful, and effective time in counseling. This means that a lot of what we will be doing is exploring your experiences, your thoughts and beliefs (and whatever else might come up) in an effort to make meaning of your mental health issues. In doing so, you may begin to feel as though you are able to reach your goals, you may feel relief from whatever mental health symptoms you’re struggling with, and you will likely gain insight into yourself and your identity.

What should I look for in a counselor?

Above all, you should look for a counselor who you like. Beginning a new counseling journey with someone you don’t know is always going to be anxiety provoking. But if you find yourself struggling to connect with your counselor, or are feeling like you and your counselor are on different wave lengths I would first recommend that you approach your counselor with those feelings, and if it doesn’t improve then I encourage you to “shop around” for someone who you can really connect with. Research tells us that the therapeutic relationship (the relationship between client and counselor) is the best predictor for successful counseling. Also, it’s your time and money! I encourage you to find someone who you feel comfortable with in order to get the most out of counseling.

What is your cancellation policy?

I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you give 24-hour notice or more in cancelling an appointment you will not be charged for the appointment. If 24-hour notice is not given, you will be charged 50% of the agreed upon fee for the missed appointment. If you no-call no-show to our appointment, you will be charged the full fee for the missed session.

Exceptions include if you are able to reschedule your appointment within the same week. Additionally, I do waive cancellation fees on a case by case basis to accommodate client’s when “life happens.”

I don’t experience severe mental health issues - can I still benefit from counseling?

Absolutely! I am a firm believer that everyone can benefit from counseling. Counseling offers a unique space where you can explore your inner world in order to get to know yourself better, and strive for personal growth which therefore can lead to living a more fulfilling life and more meaningful relationships.
